Eeek! It's alive!

So, a colleague guilted me into taking home a "bag of goo," otherwise known as starter for Amish Friendship Bread.  The recipes all assume you'll pass more bags of goo on to unsuspecting friends.  It appears to be more of an expanding "chain-letter" sort of recipe than a nice, tame (ha!) lives-in-your-fridge, much more flexible, regular sourdough starter.

I have, however, founds some variations that explain proportions for just using up the whole bag of starter without making it reproduce to plague your friends.

So, unless someone actually WANTS a bag starter goo, I'm going to use it all up.  If you are coming to my house for Christmas Eve, probably plan to leave with a loaf of Friendship Bread.

Just lettin' ya' know.

"Bag of Goo" would die at my house, I'm certain. Actual bread will get eaten.

Nice icon!

I would like a starter please. Mine died a couple of years ago and I've been wanting another ever sense. The bread is DIVINE and can be varied in any number of ways. My favorite is to make it with cranberries and orange peel.

Bread would be lovely if you pass some out then. :)
